Welcome to Norris School of Financial Independence!

June 27th, 2009 energi

I am Alice Norris, and I despise answering to a boss and working like a dung beetle.

I find it painful to go to a regular job, knowing that I could make more from home if I knew what I was doing. Little by little, in a couple of hours/day I will learn, I will take action, and I will tell you what I have decided to do and why.

Hopefully my blog will help you along your path to financial independence too.

TAKE ACTION! I implore you to dedicate time to this task and not procrastinate any longer!

By the way, I try to set all of my links to open in a new window so that you can find your way back to continue reading after choosing to click on a link.

If you do not know what to do first, here are some ideas: Go check out http://www.PayPal.com and read up on their credit card acceptance policies. Having a PayPal account is fairly fundamental, so it’s a great place to start. When I signed up, one had to have a business account in order to accept any credit card payments.

In order to get a business PayPal account, I had to have a business checking account at a regular bank, in order to have that, I had to have a DBA which I had to pay for down at the County Clerk’s office.  So I had to create a business, which entailed a great deal of research for me!

This isn’t something you are going to want to do over and over again, well I certainly didn’t, so I created a vague business name that could cover all of my business ventures. Creating a fairly generic business name ensures that when all of your customers (assuming you create more than one site) are sent to the same payment page with your business name prominently displayed, it won’t look terribly weird.

Another place to start would be to list various interests that you enjoy writing or talking about.

Use Traffic Travis to research your interests (keywords).  http://www.nsofi.org/traffictravis This is a free download of Traffic Travis which has small tutorials to walk you through various steps.  Use the Keyword Finder tool to see what words get the most traffic.  Ensure that your site is getting the attention it deserves by developing a site that magically appears where people are already looking for it. This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It is rather important, as otherwise you can create a huge site that no one will ever see.  Click here for the pro version, or just upgrade from the free version.

Also check out the ClickBank Marketplace http://www.nsofi.org/clickbank . This is where all types of affiliate program offerings can be found. Take a look to see what products fit the site that you are developing.

You can go beyond ClickBank, by just conducting a search for affiliate programs. Many sites have an “affiliates” link that will direct you into the sign up process.

Here’s to Financial Independence!
